SPATIAL MESH SHELL
SPATIAL MESH SHELL
EUROPA 50 SHOPPING CENTER
Profiles and hidden node connections based on spatially oriented multi-rod connections
The product was developed within a 2-month period and underwent 14 stages of R&D.
About the project
We designed and manufactured a mesh shell made of diamond-shaped sections based on V-shaped elements. It is the first construction in the M-GRID series of mesh shells.
Building movement compensation
Variable spatial geometry
Minimal on-site work
Concealed fasteners and built-in lighting
Lightweight yet rigid construction

TASKS AND REQUIREMENTS
engineering solutions
engineering solutions
UNIQUENESS OF ELEMENTS
Due to the complex geometry of the structure (variable radii), each beam of the grid is a unique element with its own dimensions and angles of intersection
PARAMETRIC DESIGN
An algorithmic (parametric) design method was applied to create the working documentation. We created a software algorithm allowing for the automated generation of drawings for a wide range of unique parts, based on specified parameters.
SUSPENSION SYSTEM
The construction is suspended from the building foundation through a system of flexible connections. This solution allows for adjustment of dynamic loads and deformations (due to vibrations, seismic activity, etc.) and guarantees the mesh shell’s independence and prevents damage
Power supply units are located in accessible areas equipped with access hatches
10-year warranty on LED elements
32,000 LED elements are embedded within the V-shaped recesses of the profiles
INTEGRATED LIGHTING
assembly process and production
assembly process and production
The tool was unable to access the area due to the narrow space (~8 cm) between the ceiling finish and the mesh surface. At the design stage, a solution for installing the fastener 'blindly' was developed: a groove was cut into the adjacent elements, enabling the pre-assembled fastening unit to be transported to the fixing point and then tightened
SOLUTION FOR LIMITED ACCESS
03
The construction site was supplied with ready-made modules that were designed to be easily assembled. This facilitated the assembly process, enabling the creation of an integrated structure
DELIVERY TO THE SITE
02
The construction is divided into assembly modules. Every module consists of unique V-shaped profiles. The high precision of manufacturing parts and modules at the production facility guarantees their assembly and convergence on the site
01
MANUFACTURING PRECISION
Low specific weight of the structure: 7.4 kg/m²
The shell was assembled on site over a period of one and a half months
9,220 unique parts
